An award-winning Experience at the Blacksmith’s Shop in Redbourne is the perfect introduction to the traditional art of blacksmithing. Whether you’ve tried your hand at smithing before, or it’s just something you’ve always wanted to do, these workshops offer the ideal place to hone your skills, with a very hands-on, immersive approach from the very start. Anything you make is yours to take home with you!

Both half day (10am-2pm) and full day (9am - 4pm) courses are available. In order to purchase, order a voucher via my shop. I will then send you a voucher with a year's expiry for you to redeem against a date that suits you (availability permitting, my calendar is below).

Full day experience (1 or 2 people):

The cost of the course is £230 for one person or £390 for two people. This includes a full day of private tuition (9am – 4pm), all materials, safety equipment, and refreshments.

What will you learn?

  • The day starts with health and safety introduction

  • The morning will be spent learning and refining your skills, including fire management. Skills I can teach include: splitting, forging, bending, twisting, punching, fire welding, heat treating, and joining the mild steel

  • The afternoon can then be spent using hammer and tongs to bring your idea to life

  • The full day course enables a greater depth of skills to be learnt and more complex items to be forged.

There are suggestions of possible things you can make below, but as this is your day, your own ideas are more than welcome as long as we can get it made in the time frame and I have the materials you’ll need for the job!

Ideas

Ideas could include a poker, a shovel, a brush, log tongs, a toasting fork, a fire accessory stand, a boot scraper, a hanging basket bracket, a plant pot holder, a welly holder, a candle stick holder, hinges, cupboard handles, hooks, a wall sconce, a door knocker, a curtain rail, curtain tie backs, a letter holder, pot/pan rack with hooks, a shoe horn, or even some nails.

Regrettably, I am not permitted to make anything with visitors that could be classified as a 'weapon'.

Courses can be rescheduled but only if I am given at least a month’s notice. Please see my cancellation and refund policy.

Please note that if your own ideas or designs use a lot of material then you may be charged extra. If you also plan to use a specific material I will also need to know beforehand.

For insurance reasons, I regret that I am unable to teach anybody under the age of 15.

Location
